One of every 80 women in Haiti will die in childbirth or due to pregnancy related causes. Children’s Health Ministries provides infant formula to babies whose mothers have passed away or are otherwise unable to breastfeed due to postpartum complications. Infant formula is far out of reach financially for nearly all families, so babies are often given cracker mush or porridge in place of breastmilk. With the blessing of infant formula from CHM, family members are able to provide these babies with optimum nutrition and do not feel the pressure to place the child in an orphanage for lack of resources.
Infant formula is also used in Children’s Health Ministries malnutrition programs to provide healing milk to malnourished babies under 6 months of age.
