Hunger in Haiti is the worst it's ever been, with over 60% of the population facing food insecurity. We provide the most vulnerable families in our community with food supplementation, including cornmeal, beans, and oil. Most of these families have had at least one child healed from malnutrition at CHM, and the additional food support helps keep the children healthy long after their treatment is complete.
In Haiti, babies who cannot be breastfed due to a mother's absence or illness are often given porridge made from crackers, flour, or plantains. This diet does not meet the complex needs of growing babies and leads to severe malnutrition as well as mental and physical development problems. By providing infant formula to at risk babies, Children's Health Ministries prevents many cases of severe malnutrition, stunting, and even death.
Malnutrition is one of the most common killers of children in Haiti, and the ongoing food crisis is leading to even more cases of severe malnutrition. Children's Health Ministries has been providing life-saving malnutrition treatment in our community for over 10 years. Using top quality nutrition products formulated to heal children from malnutrition, CHM's nutrition programs have been the difference between life and death for thousands of children.
Only 1 of 3 Haitian children showing signs of severe illness sees a trained medical professional, and even fewer receive appropriate antibiotics. Children's Health Ministries provides FREE healthcare for children for common, but deadly, illnesses like respiratory infection, diarrhea, intestinal parasites, pneumonia, complications of prematurity, and more. Our outpatient and inpatient pediatric healthcare services save thousands of lives every year!
It takes more than specialized food and medicine to keep our clinic running. There are lots of other costs that go into running a clinic in Haiti. Everything from feeding the guard dog Solda to putting diesel in our generator, these gifts keep the clinic running smoothly so we can keep saving little lives!
