Tiny Sabine is almost two months old — but she weighs just 3 pounds, 12 ounces. Her fragile body is fighting to stay alive.
Sabine’s mother has active tuberculosis and must be isolated for treatment. She can’t hold or nurse her baby, and Sabine has started showing signs of infection herself. She’s being tested and receiving medical care, but without nourishment, her body is too weak to fight.
Her family loves her deeply, but love alone can’t fill her bottle.
And in Haiti, a single can of formula costs two to three times a week’s wages — completely out of reach for most families.
Our formula sponsorship program is already full, but when Sabine came to us — frail and hungry — we couldn’t turn her away. She needs formula to survive.
