Baby Lounicha’s life began under heartbreaking circumstances.

Her mother suffered from high blood pressure during pregnancy, and just eight days after giving birth, she became critically ill with postpartum eclampsia. Too weak to breastfeed, her family — desperate to keep the baby alive — could only give little Lounicha crackers and water.

When her mother finally began to recover, she was prescribed strong medications that made breastfeeding unsafe. The family had no income to buy formula — in Haiti, a single can costs two to three times a week’s wages. For baby Lounicha, there was simply nothing to eat.

That’s when help arrived. With infant formula and care made possible by generous sponsors, Lounicha began receiving the nourishment her body had been crying out for. Her tiny frame started to fill out and her eyes grew bright. Each day, she’s becoming a little more of the bright, healthy baby she was meant to be.
But Lounicha’s story isn’t finished yet.
